After years of playing a supporting role to Link, Princess Zelda is finally getting her own adventure in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, launching September 26th for the Nintendo Switch.

This exciting reveal from Nintendo’s recent Direct presentation marks a turning point for the beloved franchise. For the first time, players will step into the shoes of Princess Zelda herself as she embarks on a quest to save Hyrule from a new threat.

The trailer hints at a captivating story. Following Link’s defeat at the hands of Ganon, monstrous forces descend upon Hyrule. In this desperate hour, Zelda takes center stage. Wielding the magical Tri Rod and guided by the fairy Tri, she sets out to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.

A key gameplay mechanic revolves around the Tri Rod’s unique ability to create “echoes” of objects and enemies that Zelda encounters throughout her journey. These echoes can be strategically used to solve puzzles, overcome obstacles, and even fight alongside Zelda in battles. This innovative mechanic promises a fresh take on classic Zelda gameplay.

The announcement of Echoes of Wisdom coincides with a period of significant growth for the Zelda franchise. 2023 saw the long-awaited release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the expansive sequel to Breath of the Wild, and a live-action Zelda film is currently in development by Nintendo and Sony, riding the wave of success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

While details regarding Echoes of Wisdom‘s place in the Zelda timeline and the specifics of its combat system remain under wraps, one thing is certain: fans have been waiting a long time to see Princess Zelda take the lead role in the story that bears her name. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom promises to be a landmark title, arriving on Nintendo Switch consoles on September 26th.
