Tesla‘s long-anticipated Cybertruck is inching closer to production, but the latest developments suggest there might be some bumps in the road. The electric vehicle giant has faced a series of delays since the Cybertruck’s initial announcement, leading some reservation holders to reconsider their choices. As we eagerly await its actual release, recent footage has emerged, raising questions about the Cybertruck’s off-road capabilities.
The Cybertruck, being a truck, is expected to excel in off-road environments. However, videos shared on X/Twitter by user Dima Zeniuk and discovered by CarBuzz show the Cybertruck prototypes facing challenges during off-road tests at California’s Hollister Hills off-road park. While the terrain at the park is sandy, which can pose traction issues, the videos reveal that the Cybertruck prototypes seem to struggle with gaining traction and navigating turns.
The exact weight of these prototypes remains uncertain, but they are likely quite heavy. On slippery surfaces, especially if tire pressure isn’t adjusted, this could make for a challenging off-road experience. In contrast, the Rivian R1T, which weighs around 7,000 pounds, has demonstrated impressive off-road capabilities.
It’s unclear whether these tests are definitive proof of the Cybertruck’s off-road limitations or if improvements can be made, perhaps by upgrading the tires. Nevertheless, it’s intriguing to witness the unconventional design of the Cybertruck as it faces challenges in handling traditional truck tasks. As we wait for more information on this highly anticipated vehicle, the debate continues about its true off-road capabilities.
