Segway’s stepping it up with their latest creation, the Segway-Ninebot ZT3 Pro, the company’s first electric scooter designed to take you off the beaten path—literally. While we’re used to seeing Segway’s scooters glide through city streets, the ZT3 Pro is built to handle rougher terrains, making it a standout in a market full of city commuters.
At 65.5 pounds, this is not your average scooter. It’s packing some serious off-road credentials, starting with 11-inch tubeless tires paired with a fork suspension system up front and a coil suspension swing arm on the back. Plus, there are six inches of ground clearance to help smooth out your ride when you’re bumping over rocks, dirt trails, or anything else the urban jungle can’t throw at you. The setup makes it less likely to bottom out, even when the going gets rough.
Under the hood, there’s a 1,600-watt electric motor that powers the ZT3 Pro up to speeds of 24.9 mph. You’ll get around 18.6 miles of range when you’re in sport mode, which is likely where most riders will want to stay to fully enjoy its power. If you’re not in a rush, switching to eco mode can extend the range to almost 44 miles, though that’s probably more for getting around town than tearing it up off-road. And if you’re hitting that top speed, better gear up—this isn’t the kind of ride where a casual bike helmet will cut it.
The ZT3 Pro is designed to tackle all kinds of surfaces—think sand, dirt, gravel, and even wet ground. It’s equipped with a traction control system and Segway’s Segride stability enhancement to help keep the ride smooth by reducing wheel slip and handlebar shake. Although it’s not fully waterproof, the scooter’s components are water-resistant, so a rainy day or a few puddles won’t ruin your adventure. Plus, the front and rear disc brakes provide reliable stopping power even when things get slippery.
For those who like to keep track of their ride, a three-inch LCD dashboard shows your speed and battery life at a glance, and you’ve got a headlight, turn signals, and brake light to make sure you’re visible, even when the sun goes down. Security-wise, Segway’s added some high-tech protection, like a Bluetooth-based system that prevents anyone from riding the scooter unless they’re near the paired smartphone. It also supports Apple’s Find My network, so if your ZT3 Pro ever goes AWOL, you can track it down.
Segway’s gearing up to start preorders this month on September 26th, with the first scooters expected to ship by late October. As for pricing? We’re still in the dark on that front, but with all the tech and rugged features packed into the ZT3 Pro, it’s likely to be an investment for anyone serious about off-roading on two wheels.
