Samsung has announced that it is making repair parts and guides available for a wider range of its products, including several of its latest TV models, to make it easier for people to repair devices themselves.
The new policy covers three sizes of Samsung’s 2023 model The Frame TVs, as well as its two flagship foldable phones. According to the company, many repairs for its TVs and displays only require simple tools such as a screwdriver.
Specifically, Samsung says that do-it-yourselfers will be able to replace parts related to picture quality, power supply, Wi-Fi connectivity, and sound across various Samsung displays. Repair guides and parts will also be accessible for some 2023 Samsung sound bars. Samsung claims that common household tools are all that’s needed to carry out these repairs.
Samsung’s partner for supplying parts in this initiative, Encompass Supply Chain Solutions, has long distributed Samsung parts. Last year, Samsung also partnered with renowned right-to-repair advocates iFixit for a similar self-service repair program. Although iFixit was expected to start stocking foldable phone parts in December, these don’t seem to be listed on their site yet. Encompass confirmed that foldable phone parts are due to be available by next week.
For now, Encompass offers parts for Samsung’s 2023 TVs, sound bars, monitors, projectors, tablets, laptops and phones, including recent flagship devices. This is a major expansion to Samsung’s self-repair efforts, as growing “right-to-repair” demands call for more repairable and sustainable technology.
