For bargain hunters eyeing a capable but inexpensive tablet, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A9+ has emerged as an absolute steal deal. This 11-inch Android slate, typically priced at $220, is currently available for a mere $170 at major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. While this discount has been around for a couple of weeks, it still represents the lowest price we’ve seen for this device, making it an enticing option for those on a tight budget.

The discounted model packs a respectable 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, though the latter can be expanded via a microSD card. It’s worth noting that the limited memory might lead to some stutters if you plan to push the tablet beyond casual streaming and web browsing. For those seeking a smoother experience, particularly for gaming or more intensive tasks, Samsung offers a higher-spec variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which is also currently discounted to $220 ($50 off) – another all-time low price.

While the Galaxy Tab A9+ may not excel in any single area, it checks most of the essential boxes for a budget tablet. Its 11-inch LCD display boasts a faster-than-average 90Hz refresh rate, ensuring a smooth scrolling experience through the user interface. The wide 16:10 aspect ratio makes the screen better suited for landscape mode than the 4:3 displays found on iPads. The tablet’s metal and plastic frame exudes a sleek look belying its affordable price tag, and the 7,040mAh battery should comfortably power through a day or two of casual use.

On the software front, while no Android tablet truly nails the experience, most users should find Samsung’s One UI cleaner and more user-friendly than alternatives like Amazon’s Fire OS. Samsung has also committed to providing OS updates through the eventual Android 16 release and security updates until October 2027, ensuring the tablet remains up-to-date for a considerable period.

However, it’s essential to remember that the Galaxy Tab A9+ is still a budget offering, and certain compromises are to be expected. The Snapdragon 695 chip, while speedy enough for most tasks, is no powerhouse. The charging speed tops out at a relatively modest 15W, and the tablet lacks niceties like a fingerprint reader, included stylus, or formal water resistance rating. For those not tied to the Android ecosystem, one of Apple’s iPads – though more expensive – will likely offer a more well-rounded experience, especially with new models expected in the coming weeks.

Nonetheless, at these unprecedented prices, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ represents a solid buy for those seeking a capable but affordable tablet. Whether for casual media consumption, light productivity tasks, or as an inexpensive device for kids, this deal is hard to beat, making it a dream come true for budget-conscious tablet hunters.
