Samsung is all set to launch its newest mid-range phone, the Galaxy F55, in India tomorrow, May 27th, 2024. Leaks suggest the phone will start at around ₹26,999 (approximately $325 USD) for the base model, with an 8GB/256GB version costing ₹29,999 ($361 USD).
While that price might seem decent on its own, a closer look reveals a potential challenge for Samsung. Just two days later, on May 29th, Realme is launching its GT 6T phone at a similar price point and with seemingly better specs.
Both phones boast features like 120Hz AMOLED displays, USB-C charging ports, and even 50MP main cameras with optical image stabilization (OIS). However, the Realme GT 6T pulls ahead with the latest Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 processor, while the F55 sticks with the slightly older 7 Gen 1 chip.

Realme also throws in some eye-catching features, like a supposedly industry-leading 6,000-nit peak display brightness (though its practical use might be debatable) and a larger 5,500mAh battery with a whopping 120W fast charging technology. This dwarfs the F55’s 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging, even though the latter matches Samsung’s top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra in that department.
The competition gets even steeper when you consider connectivity. The Realme GT 6T boasts the newest Bluetooth 5.4 standard, while the F55 lags behind with Bluetooth 5.2. Based on these specs and leaks, the Realme phone appears to offer more value for money.
So, why might Samsung still ask for a potentially higher starting price? Here’s where things get interesting. The Galaxy F55 comes with a trendy vegan leather back, available in “Crafted by Masters” Black or Apricot. This could be a selling point for some environmentally conscious consumers, compared to the standard glass backs found on the Realme GT 6T (Fluid Silver or Razor Green).

Samsung might also try to win buyers over with its promise of extended software support, an area where Realme might not be able to compete in the long run.
Ultimately, the choice between these two phones will depend on individual priorities. If raw performance and the latest tech are your main concerns, the Realme GT 6T seems like the better deal. But if you value a unique design element like the vegan leather back and potentially longer software support, the Samsung Galaxy F55 might be worth considering, despite the potential price premium.
