Samsung, a global leader in consumer electronics, has officially introduced its latest addition to the M-series lineup of smart monitors. Priced at $649, the new 27-inch M8 model is positioned as a direct competitor to Apple’s renowned Studio Display ($1,500, but at a significantly more affordable price point.

Unveiled at CES 2023, Samsung’s M-series monitors stand out for their all-in-one smart solutions, setting them apart from conventional “dumb” monitors. With the introduction of the M8, Samsung aims to cater to individual needs while offering an enticing alternative to Apple’s Studio Display.

Samsung’s official announcement emphasizes the M8’s versatility, highlighting its compatibility with a range of user preferences. Notably, the 27-inch model adds to the flagship 32-inch option, expanding the lineup and providing consumers with more choices.

Despite its competitive pricing, the M8 offers an array of impressive features. These include support for 4K resolution, HDR10+ technology, and a brightness capacity of up to 400 nits. Both the M8 and the M7 smart monitors also boast an impressive color coverage of up to 99% sRGB, ensuring vibrant and accurate color representation on the screens.

The M8 and M7 smart monitors are characterized by their sleek “Iconic Slim Design,” featuring a remarkably thin back measuring only 11.39mm. Additionally, both monitors are equipped with height and tilt-adjustable stands, affording users the flexibility to optimize their viewing experience. Notably, the screen can rotate 90 degrees, making it easier to view documents in portrait orientation.

With built-in streaming apps such as Amazon Prime and Netflix, the smart monitors offer a wide selection of entertainment options. Furthermore, they integrate Samsung’s Smart TV features, including the Samsung Gaming Hub, enabling users to enjoy various games without the need for a console or PC.

These smart monitors also excel in their ability to connect, manage, and control a wide range of smart home products, thanks to Matter support and a built-in SmartThings Hub. By utilizing Samsung’s SmartThings app, users can conveniently control their home lighting and perform numerous other tasks.

To further enhance user experience, the M8 and M7 models are equipped with integrated voice assistants—Samsung’s Bixby and Amazon’s Alexa. Both monitors feature built-in microphones with far-field voice support, facilitating seamless voice commands and hands-free control.

Apple users will appreciate the integration of AirPlay 2 for audio and video streaming, allowing for effortless connectivity with Apple devices.

Another noteworthy feature of the 2023 smart monitors is “My Contents,” a functionality that enables users to swiftly access essential information. Leveraging Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), the smart monitors can detect registered smartphones, and display calendar information, photos, weather updates, and more.

The M8 distinguishes itself with the inclusion of a magnetic, removable camera. This FHD-resolution camera boasts Auto Framing, ensuring that users remain centered during video calls—an invaluable feature for remote workers and video conferencing enthusiasts.

The 27-inch M8 model is priced at $649.99, while the 32-inch variant is available for $699.99. The M7 smart monitor, offered in both 27-inch and 32-inch sizes, is priced at $549.99 and $599.99, respectively. The M5 model, available in the same size options, is priced at $279.99 and $299.99.

Samsung has also prioritized aesthetics by providing a range of color options. The M8 (M80C) is available in four distinct colors—Warm White, Sunset Pink, Spring Green, and Daylight Blue. The M7 (M70C) is offered in Warm White, while the M5 (M50C) comes in black or white variants.

Interested consumers can look forward to the availability of the new M-series smart monitors starting in June.
