Ring, the Amazon-owned smart home security company, has finally introduced 24/7 continuous video recording (CVR) to its security cameras. This long-awaited feature allows cameras to record constantly, rather than just when motion is detected. It’s a significant upgrade that many users have been clamoring for.
To access this new feature, you’ll need to subscribe to the highest tier of Ring’s revamped subscription plan, now called Ring Home Premium. This will cost you $19.99 per month.
Ring Home Premium also includes cloud storage for CVR on up to 10 cameras, along with other features like event-activated recording. Plus, Ring is introducing three additional capabilities: doorbell calling, video preview alerts, and extended live view.
While the new CVR feature is exciting, it comes with a price tag. Ring’s 24/7 recording is more expensive than offerings from competitors like Google Nest and Arlo. And while Ring’s cameras offer person and package detection, they lack more advanced features like facial recognition and pet/vehicle detection that Nest and Arlo provide.
If you’re a Ring user who’s been waiting for 24/7 recording, the wait is over. But be prepared to pay a premium for this feature. And if you’re looking for more advanced detection capabilities, you might want to consider other options.
