Proton, the company known for its secure email service Proton Mail and privacy-focused Proton VPN, has expanded the reach of its password manager, Proton Pass. As of today, Proton Pass is officially available for download on macOS and Linux, making it a true cross-platform solution. This means users can now access and manage their passwords seamlessly across all major operating systems, including Windows, Android, iOS, and now macOS and Linux.

Proton Pass launched in 2023 with a focus on user experience and robust security. The core value proposition remains the same with the addition of these new platforms: users can store their passwords securely with end-to-end encryption, ensuring only they have access to their login information.

“Ensuring that Proton Pass is available on all major operating systems guarantees an optimal user experience on any preferred device,” said Son Nguyen, Product Lead for Proton Pass. “This reflects our belief that convenience and user experience are crucial for a security solution.”

This expansion to macOS and Linux comes just a year after the initial launch of Proton Pass, highlighting Proton’s commitment to providing comprehensive security solutions across all devices users rely on.

The free tier of Proton Pass, Proton Free, allows users to store an unlimited number of logins, secure notes, and connect the password manager to an unlimited number of devices. This makes it a compelling option for users seeking a basic and secure password management solution.

For users who require more advanced features, Proton offers the Pass Plus subscription plan. This plan unlocks additional features like Pass Monitor, which actively monitors the dark web for breaches containing your login credentials. Pass Plus also integrates with Proton Sentinel, a broader security service that offers additional features like data breach notifications and identity theft protection.

The macOS version of Proton Pass comes with a dedicated Safari extension, streamlining password management and auto-fill within Apple’s web browser. Mac users can also look forward to upcoming support for Touch ID, allowing them to unlock the Proton Pass app with their fingerprint.

On Linux, Proton Pass integrates with the system’s Privileged Access Management (PAM) framework. This means users can leverage their existing Linux login methods, including fingerprint sensors, to unlock the Proton Pass app in the coming weeks.

To celebrate the launch of Proton Pass on macOS and Linux, Proton is offering introductory discounts on both their Pass Plus and Proton Unlimited plans. For a limited time, users can subscribe to Pass Plus for $1.99 per month for the first year (regular price $4.99/month) and Proton Unlimited for $9.99 per month for the first year (regular price $12.99/month).
