As of now, OpenAI has made it possible for users to access their popular AI platform, ChatGPT, without the need for an account. This change, however, only applies to ChatGPT, as other OpenAI products such as DALL-E 3, which require payment, will still require an account for access.

OpenAI announced this new development in a blog post, stating that the move aims to make AI accessible to anyone who is curious about its capabilities. This decision comes as no surprise, considering the popularity of ChatGPT, which has grown rapidly since its launch in late 2022.

Previously, users had to sign up for an OpenAI account to use ChatGPT. However, with the new update, users can access the chatbot without the need for an account. However, users will still need to create an account if they want to save and review chat history, share chats, and have voiced conversations.

OpenAI’s decision to remove the need for an account to access ChatGPT follows the company’s introduction of paid subscriptions for products like DALL-E 3 and more advanced models. The company has reported that more than 100 million people across 185 countries use ChatGPT weekly, making it one of the most popular AI chatbot sites.

In addition to the new update, OpenAI has also introduced “additional content safeguards for this experience.” The company has blocked prompts in a wider range of categories but has not specified what these categories are. Users can still opt out of model training, even without an account. ChatGPT users can toggle if their ChatGPT activity can be used to train OpenAI’s AI models.

It’s worth noting that other OpenAI products, such as the newly announced AI voice cloning service Voice Engine and the video creation platform Sora, are not part of the perks of having an OpenAI account. These products remain available only to a limited number of users and partners.
