Microsoft has officially unveiled a disc-less version of the Xbox Series X, adorned in a sleek Robot White color scheme. This new console iteration joins the existing black model, offering a stylish alternative for those who prefer a fully digital gaming experience.

Revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase, the Robot White Xbox Series X packs the same powerful performance you’ve come to expect from the standard Xbox Series X. It boasts 1TB of storage and carries a price tag of $449.99 (arriving this holiday season), making it a tempting proposition for gamers who rely solely on digital downloads.

This announcement comes alongside the reveal of a special edition Xbox Series X dubbed the “Galaxy Black Special Edition.” This powerhouse features a unique black design and doubles the storage capacity to a whopping 2TB. However, unlike the Robot White model, the Galaxy Black retains the disc drive, catering to players who still cherish physical game collections. The special edition will set you back $599.99 (arriving this holiday season).

The Robot White color isn’t the only news for the smaller Xbox Series S. Microsoft is also releasing a 1TB version of the console in the same white hue, priced at $349.99 (arriving this holiday season). This brings the Series S storage capacity in line with its bigger brother, offering gamers more breathing room for their digital libraries.

Eagle-eyed Xbox enthusiasts might have noticed a similarity between the Robot White color and the existing Xbox Series S. This new addition perfectly complements the white aesthetic of the smaller console, creating a visually cohesive Xbox family. Leaks surrounding the Robot White Series X hinted at a potential upgrade to the internal heatsink, but official confirmation might have to wait for tech teardown experts to get their hands on the console.

The Galaxy Black special edition, on the other hand, caters to those who prefer a more traditional console experience. With its disc drive and double storage, it caters to players who still value a physical game collection alongside the convenience of digital downloads.

The news of the Robot White Series X seemingly confirms the shelving or delay of a previously rumored console refresh codenamed “Brooklin.” This unannounced console, revealed in leaked FTC v. Microsoft documents last year, sported a cylindrical design and lacked a disc drive. Internal documents reportedly described it as “adorably all digital,” suggesting it might have been a more compact, digital-only option.

The Brooklin was rumored to ship with a new controller and utilize a new Xbox Wireless 2 connection. Leaks placed its tentative launch date around November 2023, priced at $499. Xbox chief Phil Spencer addressed these leaks last September, acknowledging the team’s hard work and hinting at potential changes in Xbox hardware plans.

With the official reveal of the Robot White Series X, it seems the Brooklin project has either been scrapped or significantly reworked. While details remain unclear, Microsoft has undoubtedly shaken things up with the introduction of the Robot White Series X and the Galaxy Black special edition, offering gamers a wider range of options to suit their preferences.
