Microsoft has officially announced that the Xbox Avatar Editor app will be discontinued on January 9, 2025, marking the end of its more inclusive and detailed avatars introduced in 2018. The reason? Low engagement. This decision allows Microsoft to refocus on other gaming features.
Players will lose access to their custom avatars and related purchases. However, refunds will be provided for items bought since November 1, 2023. Legacy Xbox 360 avatars will remain supported, offering a nostalgic alternative for personalization.
If you’re attached to your current avatar, you can still capture a gamerpic before the app vanishes. The shutdown reflects Microsoft’s evolving priorities as they streamline personalization features to meet current player interests.
