Microsoft is giving its cloud storage service, OneDrive, a fresh new look and some handy additional features. The software giant unveiled the updated design last year and will roll it out to all OneDrive personal account holders by the end of February.
“It’s both a visual and functional upgrade designed to help you get to your files quickly and keep your content organized in multiple ways,” said Microsoft product manager Miceile Barrett. “The improved visual design reduces clutter and distractions, allowing you to focus on what’s important – your content.”
The revamped OneDrive interface aligns closely with the visual style of Windows 11 and Microsoft’s Office apps. While the main interface has been streamlined for simplicity, there’s also a new people view to easily locate files shared with family and friends. This view groups files by faces instead of filenames, which many will find more intuitive.
Several new file management features have also been introduced. Improved file filters give quick access to Word docs, Excel sheets, PowerPoints, and PDFs. The “Add New” button now lets users upload files or instantly create new Office documents. Previously, these were separate upload and new file buttons.
Additional productivity-boosting features like offline access, faster load times, and enhanced business user capabilities are planned down the road. For now, everyday Office users have a lot to look forward to as Microsoft rolls out this OneDrive makeover in the coming weeks. So if your cloud storage looks stale, a fresh new interface is likely headed your way very soon.
