Microsoft has launched a dedicated Copilot AI chatbot app on the Google Play Store for Android users. The app was launched quietly this week after gaining popularity on the web and will provide users with easy access to the helpful assistant.
At first glance, Copilot looks a lot like the popular ChatGPT interface. The conversational AI can chat casually, generate images via DALL-E integration, and even write emails or documents when asked. However, Microsoft has supercharged Copilot with exclusive access to OpenAI‘s cutting-edge GPT-4 model for free. Currently, GPT-4 remains behind a paywall on ChatGPT itself.
The Android launch marks a major milestone for Microsoft’s rebranded AI efforts. Originally introduced as “Bing Chat” earlier this year, the technology has rapidly evolved from a search feature to a versatile standalone service. Just last month, Microsoft dropped the Bing association entirely, allowing Copilot to spread its wings with its website at copilot.microsoft.com.
Mobile apps represent a logical next step toward mainstream ubiquity. While Copilot capabilities remain available through Microsoft’s Bing search app on iOS, Android users now have direct and convenient access. An iOS version also seems imminent, though no confirmation exists currently.

Microsoft is charging ahead in the AI space race with Copilot. Having established itself as a top-class AI assistant on the web, going mobile may introduce Copilot to millions more users. And by keeping coveted new features like GPT-4 free and accessible, Microsoft is betting big that Copilot itself could become a household name.
