Just two years after its grand debut, Meta is officially saying goodbye to the Quest Pro. This high-end VR headset, which we once described as “not very good,” is getting the axe.
The company announced plans to sell off its remaining inventory of Quest Pro headsets until they’re gone or by the end of the year, whichever comes first. While Meta didn’t give a specific reason for the discontinuation, it’s pretty clear that the headset didn’t exactly set the world on fire.
Remember when the Quest Pro launched with a jaw-dropping price tag of $1,499? Yeah, that didn’t go over too well. Meta tried to salvage things by permanently dropping the price to $999 a few months later, but even at that reduced cost, it was still a tough sell, especially when the arguably superior Quest 3 arrived on the scene a short time after, priced at a much more reasonable $499.
It’s also worth noting that Meta is discontinuing the Quest 2. However, that move makes a bit more sense. The Quest 2 has been around for four years now, and it has a worthy successor in the recently announced Quest 3S.
