Get ready to set sail on a brand new adventure with everyone’s favorite plumber duo! Nintendo kicked off their Summer Game Fest Direct with a bang, announcing the highly-anticipated return of the Mario & Luigi RPG series with “Mario & Luigi: Brothership.”
This marks a triumphant return for the beloved franchise, with the last installment, “Bowser’s Inside Story,” launching way back in 2009 for the Nintendo DS. It did receive a well-received remake for the 3DS in 2018, but fans have been eagerly awaiting a completely new adventure for Mario & Luigi.
In “Brothership,” the iconic Mario Bros. ditch the traditional land-based platforming for a swashbuckling seafaring adventure. Taking the helm of their very own ship, they’ll traverse a vibrant archipelago filled with uncharted islands. Working together, as always, Mario & Luigi will utilize their signature teamwork and brotherly bond to overcome any obstacle and conquer any foe that stands in their way.
This announcement comes amidst a major resurgence for Mario role-playing games on the Nintendo Switch. This year alone, fans were treated to the highly-praised remake of “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door,” following hot on the heels of last year’s critically-acclaimed “The Origami King.” February even saw the release of a delightful remake of “Mario vs. Donkey Kong.” Let’s not forget the massive success of the big-screen adaptation, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which raked in over a billion dollars worldwide and has a sequel slated for release in April 2026.
The wait for “Mario & Luigi: Brothership” won’t be long! Mark your calendars, new adventure sets sail for the Nintendo Switch on November 7th, 2024.
