As TVs get thinner, larger, and more advanced, it can be easy to forget about the classic home theater projector. But LG is aiming to bring projectors back into the spotlight with its newly announced CineBeam 4K UHD projector, the HU710PB. Dubbed the “Qube”, LG is marketing this petite projector as a stylish, artistic centerpiece for your living room.
At just 3.28 pounds and 80mm thick, the Qube packs impressive projection capabilities into a curvaceous cubic frame. Despite its small size, it can project stunning 4K images at up to 120 inches across, plenty large for an immersive cinematic experience. LG is built in a carrying handle, making it convenient to tote the Qube around the house or over to a friend’s for movie night.
The minimalist design with clean lines and rounded edges is intended to blend into modern decor. LG claims the Qube is the “perfect combination of technology and art” rather than looking like a typical tech gadget. It comes in a modern white finish that the company says will complement various aesthetic preferences.
On the specification front, the Qube checks all the key boxes. It uses advanced laser technology for vivid picture quality and supports HDR for boosted contrast and colors. For connectivity, there are HDMI eARC and USB-C inputs. It has a built-in 3W mono speaker but also supports audio pass-through via HDMI to external speakers. The lamp-free laser light source allows for low maintenance and 20,000 hours of viewing time before a replacement is needed.
Despite the premium design and display tech, there are some compromises. At just 500 ANSI lumens brightness, colors may appear washed out except in darker environments. It also lacks support for voice assistants, smart TV capabilities, and advanced calibration seen in some competing models.
Pricing and availability details remain unannounced. But interested home theater buffs can get a closer glimpse of the Qube at LG’s CES 2024 booth (#16008) starting January 9th. For those seeking a compact projector that looks as good as the content it displays, the new CineBeam seems promising.
