As we approach CES 2025, LG Electronics has already set the stage with its latest gaming display technology innovations. The star of this year’s lineup is none other than the UltraGear OLED Bendable Gaming Monitor, which LG proudly touts as the “world’s first 5K2K-resolution bendable OLED display.”

This monitor, dubbed the 45GX990A, isn’t just about specs; it’s a game-changer in how we interact with our gaming screens. With a resolution of 5120×2160, it offers the vertical pixel density of a 4K monitor but extends the canvas significantly wider, thanks to its 21:9 aspect ratio. This aspect ratio strikes a balance, offering a more immersive gaming experience than traditional 16:9 screens while still being more practical than the ultra-wides of 32:9.

The magic of this monitor lies in its adaptability. It can transform from a flat screen to a curved one with a curvature of 900R in mere seconds, providing users with the flexibility to customize their viewing experience. Whether you’re diving into a competitive shooter that benefits from a flat-screen for precision or immersing yourself in an RPG where a curved display enhances the sense of depth, this monitor promises to cater to both scenarios seamlessly.

LG has enhanced this model with the latest version of its Dual-Mode feature, allowing gamers to switch between different resolution and refresh rate settings on the fly. This could mean toggling between high resolution for detailed visuals in narrative-driven games or opting for a higher refresh rate for fast-paced action.

Complementing the bendable model is another 45-inch display, the 45GX950A, which boasts a fixed 800R curve. Both monitors share key specifications, including a lightning-fast 0.03ms (GtG) response time, which is crucial for reducing ghosting in fast-moving scenes. They also come equipped with DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, and USB-C ports with 90W power delivery, ensuring compatibility with next-gen GPUs and consoles. The 45GX950A features an RGWB subpixel layout, enhancing text readability and making it a versatile choice not just for gaming but also for productivity.

In addition to these flagship models, LG introduces the UltraGear 39GX90SA, a 39-inch monitor with a similar 21:9 aspect ratio and 800R curve but with the added advantage of being a “home entertainment hub.” Running on LG’s webOS, this monitor allows for seamless access to streaming services, much like their smart TVs, blending gaming with broader entertainment options. This push towards smart functionality mirrors trends seen with competitors like Samsung, aiming to make the monitor the central piece of a modern setup.

The ergonomic design doesn’t stop at functionality; the L-shaped stand offers a space-saving solution that keeps your desk clutter-free, enhancing both aesthetics and usability.

While the excitement builds, concrete details like pricing and exact release dates are still under wraps, with LG promising more information as CES 2025 unfolds. For gamers and tech enthusiasts, these monitors represent not just an evolution in display technology but a new way to experience both gaming and everyday computing.
