LG has just thrown its hat into the ring of foldable laptops with the announcement of the LG Gram Fold. This marks LG’s inaugural foray into the foldable laptop market, positioning itself among other major players like ASUS and Lenovo, who have already ventured into this unique category. While foldable laptops still cater to a somewhat niche audience, their popularity is steadily on the rise.
Much like its counterparts, the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold, the LG Gram Fold boasts a touchscreen design that seamlessly transforms between a sprawling tablet and a fully functional computer when unfolded. Users can enjoy a spacious 17-inch OLED display with a high-resolution QXGA+ (2560 x 1920 pixels) when utilizing it as a tablet. However, for those looking to transform it into a workstation, an accompanying Bluetooth keyboard is readily available. The device also offers support for stylus pens, making it a versatile choice for creative tasks such as art, architecture, and calligraphy.

Folded up, the top part of the LG Gram Fold’s display reduces to a more manageable 12-inch screen, while the bottom portion can serve as a fully functional keyboard for typing. LG has conducted rigorous testing on this innovative design, ensuring it can withstand an impressive 30,000 folds without any damage to the display. While this may seem less robust than Samsung’s foldable Galaxy phones, which endure around 200,000 hinge tests, it’s important to note that laptops and tablets typically see less frequent folding and unfolding in daily use.
Under the hood, the LG Gram Fold packs a punch with a 13th Gen Intel Core i5 processor. Additionally, it features RAM that LG claims is a remarkable 15 times faster than LPDDR5 5,200 memory. Running on the Windows 11 operating system, the foldable laptop also includes a Sync On Mobile feature, simplifying the process of transferring data from your phone to the device.
The LG Gram Fold is set to hit the market in October, albeit initially in Korea. While its price tag may raise some eyebrows at 4.99 million won (approximately $3,700), it still manages to undercut HP’s $5,000 Spectre Fold. Early birds have an even better deal, with the first 200 customers able to snag it for 3.99 million won (around $2,959). Furthermore, LG sweetens the deal for launch-day buyers by including a complimentary mouse and stylus—a generous offer not available with later purchases.
