LG Electronics has announced the development of a unique home robot assistant that can not only provide information, home control, and security features but also keep an eye on pets while owners are away.
The compact bipedal robot, which LG plans to officially debut at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, walks smoothly on two legs and features articulated joints that allow it to dynamically move around and even display emojis through body language.
Powered by Qualcomm’s new Robotics RB5 platform, the human-scale robot implements advanced artificial intelligence to recognize faces, understand voices, engage in two-way conversation, and analyze human emotions.
One of the key highlights LG emphasized is the robot’s ability to monitor pets while owners are out. The robot uses its built-in camera, smart sensors and computer vision technology to keep an eye on pets and notify owners through their smartphone if it detects unusual activity.
LG says pet owners will be able to not only periodically check in on a live video feed of their home while away but also receive alerts if the robot notices signs of distress from pets under its watch.
The versatile machine can also provide home security by detecting unexpected motion and sending notifications about potential intrusions or safety hazards.
LG has not revealed pricing or exact availability yet but promises to share more details at CES 2024 in January (Dates: 9-12), where the robot will make its first public appearance. For consumers eagerly anticipating the rollout, it likely won’t be cheap given the advanced technologies involved.
But for pet owners wanting extra peace of mind and those intrigued by the practicality of a multi-talented human-like robot helper, LG’s new offering presents an innovative vision of AI making an impact in everyday home life.
