The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has always been a showcase for the latest display advancements, but LG Display has raised the bar with its new 27-inch OLED panel capable of a blistering 480Hz refresh rate.
Unveiled ahead of CES 2024, this new 1440p gaming display combines an extremely fast 0.03ms response time with the buttery smooth visuals that only a 480Hz refresh rate can provide. It handily beats out LG’s own 32-inch “Dual-Hz” OLED monitor announced last month, which could only achieve 480Hz at a reduced 1080p resolution.
LG’s panel also leapfrogs Samsung’s recently announced 1440p 360Hz OLED, which is already being incorporated into monitors from the likes of MSI and Dell. It seems LG is intent on establishing itself as the undisputed leader in high-speed OLEDs.
This new display makes use of LG’s “META Technology” to improve brightness and viewing angles, while also emitting lower levels of blue light compared to competitors — an important factor for gamers planning marathon sessions.
While no gaming monitors featuring this panel have been confirmed yet, LG Display plans to showcase its full range of OLED gaming displays at CES 2024, from 27 inches up to a massive 45 inches. With both LG and Samsung pushing OLED technology to ever-higher refresh rates, expect gaming monitors to continue evolving at a rapid pace.
