Lenovo has unveiled an innovative new 2-in-1 device at CES 2024 — the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid – which aims to provide the best of both the Windows and Android operating systems in one machine.
The device functions as a regular Windows laptop, but the screen can detach to become a standalone Android tablet. The Windows side is powered by a high-end Intel processor, with lots of RAM and storage, while the Android tablet has its own dedicated Qualcomm processor and storage. The same stunning 14-inch OLED display is shared between the two sides.
The software integration between Windows and Android is still a work in progress. File sharing and transferring between the two operating systems doesn’t seem seamless yet. But this could improve by launch. Essentially you get two distinct devices — a productivity-focused Windows laptop and an entertainment-focused Android tablet.
The ThinkBook Plus Hybrid will launch in the Summer of 2024, priced starting at $1,999.
Lenovo also showed off updates to its ThinkBook 16p laptop and an innovative “Magic Bay” accessory system featuring a high-end 4K webcam. Additionally, refreshes to the lightweight ThinkBook 13x and the Legion gaming laptop line-up were revealed.
The key takeaway is Lenovo’s ambition to combine the best of Windows and Android into a truly innovative 2-in-1 device. The ThinkBook Plus Hybrid still seems like a work in progress, but if Lenovo can refine the software integration, it could set a new bar for premium 2-in-1 convertible laptops.
