Kontron, a German company, has developed an 8.9cm single-board computer to assist developers in creating a low-latency, graphics-demanding, and AI-enabled embedded system for smart retail, industrial automation, smart cities, healthcare, or other IoT and AIoT applications. The 3.5in-SBC-TGL is powered by Intel Core U-Series processors from the 11th generation, also known as Tiger Lake UP3.

Aside from the processor’s and its integrated Iris Xe Graphics processing unit’s computational and graphics performance, the board provides developers with native AI capabilities for adding vision-based intelligence to their applications.

The integrated GPU can handle up to 96 execution units for highly parallel applications, and Intel Deep Learning Boost can help accelerate AI workloads. That is, it can provide adequate AI inference performance without the use of a separate dedicated graphics card. Integration costs, power consumption, thermal output, and space requirements can all be reduced as a result.

Additionally, the board contains two DisplayPort connectors on the IO panel and can output up to two 8K video channels at 60 frames per second with virtually no lag, missing frames, or stuttering. It may also produce four parallel DisplayPort signals via two additional DisplayPort connectors routed from the board-to-board connector in order to playback 4K video at 60 frames per second.

In addition to a GbE LAN port, there is a 2.5GbE LAN port to meet expanding broadband networking requirements. Partial variations feature Intel time coordinated computing and time-sensitive networking, allowing for low-latency networking both within and between systems.

In addition to a board-to-board connector for additional IO or function extension, it has a variable TDP range of 12 to 28W. The adaptability enables a system to be created based on the cooling strategies employed and the applications addressed. The board may be integrated into applications ranging from home to commercial and tough industrial environments and supports commercial-grade and industrial-grade operating temperatures.
