Remember Myspace, where your profile was a canvas of self-expression, complete with a background image, custom layout, and your favorite tunes blasting as visitors scrolled through your page? Well, Instagram is bringing back a bit of that nostalgia with its latest update.
In a nod to the early 2000s social media platform, Instagram has introduced a new feature that allows users to add a song to their profiles. This musical addition joins the ranks of profile pictures, bios, and links, offering a fresh way for users to express themselves and share their musical tastes.
How does it work? Simply head to your profile settings and select the option to add a song. From there, you can browse Instagram’s library of licensed music and choose a track that resonates with you. The selected song will then appear prominently on your profile, inviting visitors to tap and play.

While the feature might evoke memories of Myspace’s autoplaying tunes, Instagram has taken a slightly different approach. The songs don’t automatically start when someone visits your profile. Instead, visitors have the option to play and pause the music at their own convenience. And if you’re worried about the music overpowering your profile, don’t fret – the duration is capped at 30 seconds, ensuring a brief musical interlude.
Instagram’s announcement of the new feature was accompanied by a collaboration with singer Sabrina Carpenter. Her profile now showcases a teaser of her new song, “Taste.”
