After years of anticipation, gamers finally got their first glimpse of the highly-awaited new Indiana Jones video game during Microsoft‘s recent Developer Direct event. Developed by the seasoned studios at Bethesda and MachineGames, known for blockbuster titles like Wolfenstein and Skyrim, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle aims to translate the thrilling action and globetrotting adventures of the beloved film franchise for an interactive experience.
Set between the classic 1981 movie Raiders of the Lost Ark and 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the reveal trailer immerses us right into the danger and intrigue synonymous with one of Hollywood’s most iconic heroes. We see Indy cracking his signature whip to fend off snarling lions, trading blows atop fast-moving trains, and finding himself in a number of familiar life-or-death scenarios. The gameplay is a mix of first and third-person perspectives, keeping the player at the heart of the cinematic action one moment while pulling back to showcase the grand sense of scale and discovery the next.
Longtime fans will be excited to see Indy rendered so lovingly for the gaming space under the supervision of veteran producer Todd Howard. And for a new generation meeting the character for the first time, it’s shaping up to be quite an introduction, with the classic globe-trotting, treasure-hunting thrills fully translated into cutting-edge interactive entertainment when Indiana Jones and the Great Circle hits Xbox and PC platforms sometime in 2024.
While an official release date remains unannounced, next year can’t come soon enough after this promising first look that masterfully blends the nostalgic and the new. Indy may be getting on in years for an action hero, but this reveal proves his amazing adventures still have plenty of excitement left to unravel in the years ahead. Wherever the Great Circle takes him, we’ll be along for the ride when one of cinema’s greatest swashbuckling icons makes his grand return.
