Swedish furniture giant IKEA is expanding its smart home offerings with three new sensors aimed at home safety and security — the PARASOLL door and window sensor, the VALLHORN motion-activated light sensor, and the BADRING water leakage detector.
The PARASOLL sensor can be mounted on doors and windows to send notifications when they are opened or closed unexpectedly, providing peace of mind and home security. It also connects directly to IKEA smart lights. The VALLHORN motion sensor turns connected lights on via motion activation, with customizable color and brightness settings across up to 10 IKEA smart bulbs. Finally, the BADRING sensor detects water leaks and can either send mobile alerts or trigger an audible built-in alarm to help prevent water damage.
All three devices connect to IKEA’s smart home ecosystem, including the Dirigera smart home hub, and blend seamlessly into home decor with their petite white designs. They build on IKEA’s existing lineup of affordable smart products like the Vindstyrka air quality monitor.
“Everyone wants to feel safe at home and we feel excited about entering a new smart product area that creates not only a better, but safer life at home,” said Stjepan Begic, Product Design Developer at IKEA, emphasizing home comfort and security as motivations behind the new launch.
Euro pricing is set at €9.99 for PARASOLL, €7.99 for VALLHORN, and €9.99 for Barding. US pricing is still to be announced but expected to align closely with these amounts. Release timelines for the US market are January 2024 for VALLHORN, April 2024 for PARASOLL, and July 2024 for Barding. American consumers can soon experience IKEA’s unique brand of functional, reliable smart home tech with a Nordic flair.
