If you’re an EU citizen concerned about your online privacy, you have the right to request the deletion of your data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). OpenAI provides a simple way to do this by filling out the “OpenAI Personal Data Removal Request” form, which requires accurate and detailed responses regarding your request.

Opting out of training purposes

How to delete ChatGPT history

If you prefer not to delete your entire ChatGPT account but want to clear your chat history, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your ChatGPT account by visiting the login page.
  2. Locate the three dots next to your name in the right-hand tab.
  3. Click on the three dots and choose the option “Clear Conversations.”
  4. By doing so, your previous chats with ChatGPT will be erased, effectively wiping your account history.

Additionally, OpenAI now offers users the ability to disable chat history altogether. To avail of this feature, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your account settings.
  2. Locate the “Data Control” option.
  3. Click on “Data Control” to access the settings.
  4. Look for the toggle labeled “Chat history & training” and switch it off.
  5. This setting will delete your conversations with ChatGPT after a period of 30 days.

How to delete your ChatGPT account

If you’ve decided to bid farewell to the AI chatbot, follow these step-by-step instructions to delete your ChatGPT account and safeguard your privacy:

  1. Log in to your ChatGPT account using your credentials.
  2. Find the three dots next to your name in the right-hand panel.
  3. Click on the three dots to reveal a dropdown menu.
  4. Choose the option “Settings” from the menu.
  5. Inside the account settings, locate the “Data Control” section.
  6. Click on “Data Control” to access the data control settings.
  7. Finally, select the “Delete account” option to permanently delete your ChatGPT account.
