Sony is dusting off one of its beloved titles, Horizon Zero Dawn, with a fresh coat of paint—remastered for both PS5 and PC. This announcement dropped during Sony’s State of Play event, with the remaster set to hit digital and physical shelves on October 31st, 2024. Expect “stunning new visuals and enhanced features” to bring the game up to modern standards.
For those unfamiliar, Horizon Zero Dawn debuted in 2017, introducing players to a post-apocalyptic world where machines roam the earth, and you, as the main character Aloy, must hunt and survive. Armed with a bow, spear, and a mix of stealth, you take on robotic beasts in vast open landscapes. The game quickly became a fan favorite, known for its unique blend of action, RPG elements, and breathtaking visuals.
The rumors of a remaster have been swirling since 2022, and last week, sharp-eyed fans noticed an ESRB rating for both the PS5 and PC versions. This wasn’t much of a shocker, as Sony has been gradually bringing many of its flagship titles to PC, and Horizon Zero Dawn itself made the leap in 2020. A PS5 update came in 2021, boosting performance to a silky-smooth 60 frames per second, but this remaster promises to take things up a notch, especially with the PS5 Pro launching in November.
For gamers who already own Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 or PC, upgrading to the remastered version will cost just $9.99—a pretty solid deal. If you’ve never played the game, now’s a great time to dive in, though you’ll have to shell out $49.99 for the full remastered experience. Either way, this iconic adventure will soon look and feel better than ever on today’s hardware.
Looks like it’s time to dust off that bow and prepare for another wild ride with Aloy!
