Honda stunned the automotive world this week by unveiling the Honda Zero, a strikingly designed global electric vehicle series coming to market in 2026. Centered around two provocative concept cars dubbed the “Saloon” and “Space-Hub”, Honda is presenting the Honda Zero as an antidote to the recent influx of “thick, heavy” EVs.
“Thin, light, and wise” are the guiding principles behind the Honda Zero EV lineup, which promises a lightweight, aerodynamic approach to next-generation electric mobility. The concepts showcase exotic sloping shapes and minimalist interiors bathed in Tron-like accent lighting.
While technical specifications remain scarce, Honda confirmed the Honda Zero vehicles will offer varying levels of autonomous driving capabilities thanks to the company’s Sensing driver assistance platform. A marketing video even depicted a retractable steering wheel for hands-free highway driving.
The Saloon concept boasts a sweeping fastback silhouette reminiscent of a futuristic Tesla Model S, with rectangular front and rear lighting that brings to mind a retro Dustbuster vacuum. Perched atop vast wheels with pixelated covers, the Saloon looks like it was teleported from the set of Tron.
Meanwhile, the Space-Hub resembles a next-generation minivan crossed with a greenhouse, featuring huge panoramic glass windows and two benches facing each other inside. The missing rear window hints at heavy reliance on camera technology for rear visibility.
Both concepts ride extremely close to the ground, reflecting racing-inspired performance DNA from Honda’s Formula 1 program. The company also touted next-generation e-Axle electric drivetrain technology for optimal battery efficiency.
Artificial intelligence will enable the vehicles to learn driver preferences and suggest personalized route recommendations. Honda said its future EVs will offer a mix of partial and full self-driving capabilities to suit different needs.
The Honda Zero lineup represents a bold new EV vision after Honda canceled affordable EV plans with GM and paused public operations for the Cruise autonomous vehicle program. However, with the stylish Honda Prologue SUV launching soon and 30 new EVs planned by 2030, the company is charging ahead toward a zero-emission future.
The cutting-edge Honda Zero unveiling suggests that after playing it safe with the capable but boring Honda Clarity EV, the company is now swinging for the fences. Love it or hate it, these radically designed concept cars draw a line in the sand — the age of the boring electric car is over. Honda is determined to inject eye-catching excitement into the dawn of the electric era.
