Google’s Pixel Watch faced a stumbling start upon its initial release. However, a year later, Google is back with the Pixel Watch 2, aiming to leave a lasting impression. Unveiled at the Made by Google event, this new iteration promises substantial improvements in health and fitness tracking, extended battery life, and seamless integration with Google’s services. Plus, it boasts an eco-friendly touch with a case made entirely from recycled aluminum.

The Pixel Watch 2 introduces advanced health and fitness features, including enhanced sensors for heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring. Innovative additions like Continuous ElectroDermal Activity (cEDA) and a skin temperature sensor, borrowed from Fitbit watches, measure stress levels and guide users through relaxation exercises. Automatic workout tracking and heart zone training cater to specific fitness goals, providing a comprehensive fitness experience.

While the Pixel Watch 2 shares some similarities with its predecessor, notable enhancements include a larger and more streamlined crown and redesigned watch bands for enhanced comfort. Google’s expertise in artificial intelligence shines through, offering insightful analyses of users’ health and routines, enriching their overall experience.

On the software front, Wear OS 4 introduces new features like Safety Check, allowing users to share their location with loved ones in case of emergencies. Moreover, seamless integration with Gmail, Google Calendar, and smart home devices enhances the watch’s utility. Google has addressed the power efficiency issue from the previous model, opting for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 5100, ensuring improved performance without compromising battery life.

The Pixel Watch 2’s battery capacity has been slightly increased, coupled with faster charging times. Google emphasizes its commitment to all-day use, a significant improvement from the previous model’s limitations. The device maintains its sleek design, with a visually unchanged case and display. Despite these similarities, the Pixel Watch 2 brings substantial improvements under the hood, offering a refined user experience.

Available for pre-order starting at $349, the Pixel Watch 2 offers both Wi-Fi-only and LTE models. Buyers will enjoy a complimentary six-month Fitbit Premium subscription, adding even more value to this advanced wearable device. Shipping begins next week, marking Google’s renewed foray into the competitive wearable technology market.
