Google‘s highly anticipated Pixel 9 series has made its debut, but with a surprising omission: Android 15. The new lineup, comprising the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, will ship with Android 14 instead of the latest operating system.

This departure from the company’s usual practice of showcasing new Android versions alongside its flagship devices is unexpected. While Android 14 was released in October 2023, the public beta for Android 15 is already underway, indicating that a full release is anticipated later this year.

Despite launching on the previous Android iteration, Google has incorporated several AI-powered features into the Pixel 9 series. These innovations aim to enhance user experience and differentiate the devices. However, the absence of Android 15 may raise questions about Google’s software strategy and its impact on consumer expectations.
