It looks like Google is about to give its Pixel phones a major upgrade: satellite connectivity. You might be able to send emergency texts and even make calls straight from your phone, even when there’s no cell service around.
The Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and the fancy foldable 9 Pro Fold are the first in line to get this new superpower. It seems Google is copying Apple‘s homework here, but hey, if it works, it works! We’re talking about sending messages to emergency services when you’re out in the middle of nowhere, or during a big disaster.

But here’s the catch: while Google’s giving us a two-year freebie on this satellite service, don’t expect it to be forever. After that, you might have to pay a subscription fee. And don’t get too excited just yet. This feature might not be available right away when the Pixel 9s launch.
