Google has unveiled its second-generation foldable smartphone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The tech giant is betting big on a larger, more immersive viewing experience without breaking the bank.
The standout feature of the new Pixel Fold is its expansive 8-inch inner display. This makes it the largest foldable screen on the market, surpassing even the OnePlus Open. To complement the bigger screen, Google has significantly boosted brightness, promising a viewing experience that’s 80% better than its predecessor.
However, while the display has seen improvements, the price tag remains unchanged at $1,799. This might disappoint those hoping for a more affordable foldable option.
Beyond the screen, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold boasts a sleek design with a satin metal frame, polished hinge, and a silky matte back. It’s also notably thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Under the hood, the device is powered by Google’s latest Tensor G4 chip and comes with a generous 16GB of RAM.
Google’s AI prowess is evident in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The device integrates Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, allowing users to perform various tasks with voice commands. Additionally, buyers get a year of Google One AI Premium, offering advanced AI features and ample cloud storage.
Photography enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold retains the strong camera performance that the Pixel series is renowned for. The triple camera setup includes a wide, ultrawide, and telephoto lens, with additional AI-powered features like Night Sight Video and Magic Editor.
While the Pixel 9 Pro Fold undeniably offers improvements over its predecessor, the lack of a price reduction might be a hurdle for some consumers. Ultimately, whether this foldable device is worth the investment will depend on individual preferences and priorities.
