Just as Google trimmed the cost of its Pixel 9 lineup before Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 debuted, it’s now delivering an even deeper cut on the Pixel 8 Pro. Back in early July, the company knocked a whopping $400 off the phone’s suggested retail price, bringing the flagship down to $599—its lowest price yet.

Weeks before the official Pixel 10 announcement, the deal is live both on Amazon and directly through the Google Store, where buyers typically pay closer to the original $999 tag. Of course, Google—and retailers like Amazon—have been quick to run promotions since the Pixel 8 Pro’s release, so most shoppers never really shell out full price anyway.

But this summer’s markdown is particularly sweet: on top of the $400 discount, Google is bundling in a Pixel Watch 2 (an LTE model valued at around $299) and a free protective case (worth roughly $35). If you’re a Google One subscriber, you also score an extra 10% store credit on your purchase—effectively counting toward future apps, videos, or cloud storage upgrades.

Even without trading in an old device, $599 for a 2023 flagship is hard to beat. Last year’s Pixel 9 didn’t stray too far in terms of performance or camera prowess, and crucial AI-driven tools—like Magic Editor, Best Take, and Video Boost—have since been back‑ported to the Pixel 8 line. The once-exclusive Pixel 9 features, including the slick Pixel Weather app, now shine on your last‑generation hardware too.

What truly separates the two generations is under the hood: the Pixel 8 Pro runs on Google’s Tensor G3 chip, optimized for AI-powered photo and video tricks, while its successor will ship with the next‑gen Tensor G5 processor. Beyond raw speed, the G5 is rumored to boost battery efficiency and add hardware‑level codecs for even smoother HDR shooting—though, for most daily users, the difference may feel incremental.

Mark your calendar for August 20, 2025, when Google officially unveils the Pixel 10 series at its “Made by Google” event in New York City. The livestream kicks off at 10 am PT/1 pm ET, and alongside the new phones, expect fresh Pixel Watches, earbuds, and perhaps even a glimpse at Google’s long‑teased AR smart glasses.

Once the curtain falls on the Pixel 10, you’ll likely see the Pixel 8 Pro vanish from the Google Store. The current $400 discount deal expires the day before the event—August 19, 2025—so this may truly be your last chance to buy directly from Google at this price. Of course, third‑party retailers might continue to clear out remaining stock, potentially driving street prices even lower in the weeks that follow.

And here’s the kicker: although the Pixel 8 Pro is now “two generations old,” it still comes with seven years of software updates and security patches, stretching through 2030. That means even in 2028 or ’29, your bargain‑hunted Pixel will keep receiving the latest Android upgrades and feature drops—making the risk of buying last year’s model feel far less daunting than it once did.

If you’ve been on the fence, weighing the Pixel 8 Pro’s AI chops and multi‑year support against the lure of the newest hardware, now’s a great time to pull the trigger. And if you’re willing to trade in down the road, anticipate even steeper discounts on the Pixel 10—and whatever deals Google and retailers roll out to sweeten its launch. Enjoy the savings, and happy shopping!
