Google Meet has introduced a new update that allows users to display their pronouns during video calls, a step aimed at fostering inclusivity in workplace communication. This update is available for users with Google Workspace subscriptions—such as those in business or educational settings—but unfortunately, individual Google account holders won’t have access to this feature yet.
For those eligible, the feature is easy to set up. Admins must first enable pronoun sharing within their organization. Once enabled, users can head to their Google Account’s “About Me” page, where they can select from preset pronouns (like she/her, he/him, or they/them) or even create custom pronouns. However, users need to ensure their pronouns are visible to others by setting their visibility to “Anyone” in their settings.
Pronouns will appear in various Google apps, including Meet, Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts. The move is part of Google’s broader push to integrate pronoun visibility across its platform, contributing to more respectful and personalized interactions, especially in collaborative work environments.
Though the feature is currently only available via the web interface, it’s possible to manage pronouns through mobile settings, hinting that Google may extend the full functionality to mobile devices in the future. Alongside this feature, Google continues to update its services, recently adding capabilities like video messaging in Google Chat and transcription tools for voice messages.
