Google is throwing its hat into the conversational AI ring with the launch of Gemini Live. Unveiled at its Pixel 9 event, this new feature transforms the text-based Gemini into a full-fledged voice assistant, capable of holding dynamic, back-and-forth conversations.
Think of it as a more natural, fluid version of your typical voice assistant. Gemini Live lets you interrupt mid-sentence, pause the chat to resume later, and even keep the conversation going while your phone is locked or you’re using other apps. It’s like having a real-time, voice-based expert at your fingertips.
To make the experience more engaging, Google has introduced 10 new voices for Gemini. The initial rollout is focused on English-speaking Android users with Gemini Advanced subscriptions, but the company promises to expand language support and availability to iOS devices in the coming weeks.
While Gemini Live is undoubtedly the star of the show, Google has also packed in other AI enhancements. The assistant is getting smarter about understanding the context of what’s on your screen, thanks to new features that can extract information from videos and images. For instance, you could ask Gemini about a travel destination featured in a video, and it could pull out details like the location and add it to Google Maps.
