Google has rolled out a major update for its Gemini AI assistant. Now, subscribers to Gemini Advanced via Google One AI Premium can enjoy a feature that many have been eagerly awaiting: the ability for Gemini AI to recall past conversations.

For years, users of digital assistants have had to manually recap previous chats or scroll through endless threads to pick up where they left off. With this new update, however, Gemini AI is set to change the game. The assistant now retains context from your past interactions, meaning it can seamlessly continue a conversation without you needing to rehash details each time.

Imagine working on a complex project, discussing ideas, or simply having an engaging chat, only to lose track of the thread of conversation. The new recall feature means that Gemini AI now keeps a memory of your discussions, allowing it to build upon previous exchanges. Not only can you resume conversations effortlessly, but you can also ask the AI to summarize past chats, providing you with a quick refresher on key points.

Gemini’s new feature offers substantial benefits, Google is also keen to maintain user control over personal data. Users can now review, delete, or manage their Gemini chat history at any time. By selecting your profile picture in the top right corner of the Gemini app and clicking on “Gemini Apps Activity,” you’re empowered to manage your digital footprint.

This focus on transparency and user autonomy comes at a crucial time, as privacy concerns continue to be at the forefront of discussions about AI technology. Google’s approach of providing clear controls over conversation history helps address these concerns while pushing the envelope on what AI assistants can do.

This latest development is part of a broader movement within the tech industry to create more personalized and intelligent AI systems. ChatGPT, for instance, has similarly enhanced its ability to recall details and tailor responses based on past interactions.

While the recall feature is currently available in English for Gemini’s web and mobile apps to Google One AI Premium subscribers, Google has promised further expansion. In the coming weeks, the feature will be rolled out to additional languages and extended to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers.
