Google Drive has just unveiled a feature that could revolutionize how we consume videos. The platform is now capable of automatically generating captions for videos, a development that promises to enhance accessibility and convenience for users worldwide.
While this feature is a significant leap forward, its implementation is still in its early stages. For those eager to test it out, you’ll need to be using a desktop computer and have a Google Workspace account. Personal Google accounts will require an extra step to enable the feature.
How to add auto-generated captions
The process itself is relatively straightforward. Once you’ve located your video in Google Drive, right-click on it and select “File information” followed by “Manage caption tracks.” From there, you simply click “Generate automatic captions.”
Unfortunately, there’s a catch. The process of generating captions can be time-consuming, and there’s no clear indication of progress.
Despite these initial hiccups, the potential of this feature is undeniable. It has the power to make videos more accessible to people with hearing impairments and to simplify the content creation process for everyone.
