Google Calendar today introduced a new feature that allows users to specify their working locations and timeframes. While the platform already provided the option to set working locations for certain days of the week, this latest update enables users to precisely indicate when they will be working from home or in the office. With this enhancement, colleagues and team members can effortlessly determine an individual’s whereabouts throughout the day, even if they frequently switch between different locations.

To access this feature, users simply need to navigate to the main Calendar page and select “Create.” From there, by clicking on “Working Locations,” users can specify their working location for a given date and define different timeframes accordingly. For instance, one can set their working location as “Home” from 9 am to 12 pm and as “Office” from 1 pm to 5 pm. This enables colleagues to effectively plan around their schedule when arranging in-person meetings or collaborative sessions.

The new feature is currently being rolled out and is already visible to users of Google Workspace accounts. However, it’s important to note that access to this functionality is limited to specific subscription tiers. Users must have one of the following Workspace subscription tiers: Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Standard, Education Plus, the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and Nonprofits.

Moreover, the introduction of this feature aligns with the increasing prevalence of hybrid work models. As more organizations adopt flexible work arrangements, employees are seeking tools that can support their evolving needs. Google Calendar’s latest update reflects a commitment to address these changing demands and further solidifies the platform as a go-to productivity tool for professionals worldwide.

In addition to its immediate benefits for workplace coordination, the new feature also carries potential long-term advantages. By utilizing data on employees’ working locations and timeframes, organizations can gain insights into remote work patterns, office space utilization, and overall workforce mobility. This valuable information can inform decisions regarding resource allocation, office space optimization, and the implementation of future work policies.
