Garmin has quietly dropped its latest mariner-focused wearable, the Quatix 8. After several leaks and hints scattered across Garmin’s channels, the new Quatix hits shelves just in time for summer voyages. Built on the robust foundation of the Fenix 8, this watch carves out its own niche with dedicated nautical features that promise to make life at sea a breeze.

Available in two case sizes—47mm and 51mm—the Quatix 8 sports a vivid 1.4-inch AMOLED display, ensuring charts and stats remain crisp even under the harsh glare of midday sun. The watch retains the rugged, knurled bezel and reinforced fiber-polymer housing of the Fenix line, but swaps in marine-grade finishes and a variety of strap options suited to salty swims and deck duties. Whether you opt for the smaller profile or the beefier 51 mm frame, you get the same waterproof build and touchscreen responsiveness.

Battery life is where the Quatix 8 truly sets sail apart. On the 47mm model, Garmin promises up to 16 days of smartwatch mode runtime, or 7 days if you leave the display in always-on mode. Step up to the 51mm version, and that endurance nearly doubles to 29 days in smartwatch mode, with expedition-style GPS tracking extending for up to 17 days. Whether you’re circumnavigating islands or embarking on a weekend catamaran trip, charging downtime becomes a worry of the past.

Underneath its ocean-ready exterior, the Quatix 8 integrates Garmin’s BlueChart mobile mapping, letting sailors preview coastal charts, depth contours and tide lines right on their wrist. The watch can even issue voice commands to compatible chartplotters, so you can adjust waypoints or fetch weather overlays without breaking a sweat—or losing your gloves. Advanced hull-mounted transducer support means onboard sonar data can stream directly to your watch, giving you a fish-finder in miniature form.

Garmin has equipped the Quatix 8 with both a built-in microphone and speaker, transforming it into a true smartwatch. Pair it via Bluetooth to your smartphone, and you can make and receive calls right from your wrist—handy when you’re below deck rigging lines. Smart notifications, message replies, and music controls round out the package, ensuring you never miss the moment when landlubbers check in ashore.

True to its maritime pedigree, the Quatix 8 offers 100m water resistance and is dive-rated to 40m, meaning you can switch from helm-duties to snorkeling with zero worries. The reinforced casing and sapphire crystal protect against knocks from halyards and cleats, while the fluorocarbon-reinforced straps resist both UV fade and salt corrosion.
