Fujifilm has introduced its new X-M5 camera, which is aimed at budget-conscious aspiring vloggers and content creators. Priced at $799.95, the X-M5 enters Fujifilm’s mirrorless camera lineup as the most affordable option, especially for creators who might be looking for a more professional setup than their smartphone offers. However, despite its appeal for video work, it lacks in-body image stabilization (IBIS), something typically expected in vlogging cameras. This might be a drawback for some creators who rely heavily on stable, handheld footage.
The camera is light, weighing only 13 ounces (355 grams), and offers a variety of features targeted at vloggers. It includes Fujifilm’s popular film simulation modes, which are great for giving your videos or photos a specific aesthetic. The X-M5 includes a fully articulating rear LCD screen, ideal for shooting in different angles, especially for vloggers who need to see themselves while recording. However, it does not come with an electronic viewfinder (EVF), something that might be missed by traditional photographers who prefer shooting through a viewfinder.
A standout feature of the X-M5 is its built-in three-mic system, a first for Fujifilm, which provides more options for capturing sound in different environments. This makes it easier to vlog or record without always needing an external microphone, though it does offer a mic input. Fujifilm also included noise-cancellation capabilities, which could help enhance audio quality in noisy environments.
Under the hood, the X-M5 sports a 26.1-megapixel CMOS sensor and Fujifilm’s X-Processor 5, ensuring high-quality images and decent video performance, including 6.2K video recording at 30 frames per second. It also introduces a 9:16 aspect ratio video mode for creators focused on producing content for social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

On the downside, the camera’s LCD resolution is relatively low, and it uses an older battery, meaning it may not last as long as other Fujifilm models, especially for longer vlogging sessions. Additionally, it comes with a UHS-I SD card slot, which is slower compared to more advanced UHS-II cards, but for many vloggers or beginners, this may not be a dealbreaker.
Fujifilm is also unveiling new lenses, including a revamped XF16-55 f/2.8 lens and a 500mm f/5.6 lens designed for wildlife photography, which further expands its ecosystem for photographers and videographers.
