Fujifilm has recently expanded its acclaimed Techno-Stabi line with the introduction of two new models: the TS-L2040 and TS-L1640, both featuring advanced electronic stabilization technology. These additions are not just a step up in magnification but also mark a significant evolution in portability and functionality for enthusiasts and professionals alike.

The TS-L2040 offers an impressive 20x magnification, setting a new benchmark for handheld viewing without the need for additional support. Priced at $1,299.95, it’s slated for release on January 31st, 2025. The TS-L1640, with its 16x magnification, comes in slightly cheaper at $1,199.95. Both models are notably lighter and smaller than their predecessor, the TS-X14x40, weighing in at just 1.88 pounds compared to the previous 2.9 pounds. This reduction in size and weight is a boon for birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, or anyone looking to carry high-quality optics on extended outdoor adventures.

The image shows two pairs of FUJIFILM Techno-Stabi binoculars, specifically the TS-L2040 and TS-L1640 models, placed on a mossy forest floor. The binoculars are black with a textured grip and have the FUJINON logo prominently displayed. The surrounding environment includes green moss and tree bark, suggesting an outdoor setting ideal for using these binoculars.

One of the core features of these new binoculars is their advanced stabilization system. Utilizing a gimbal-mounted prism, the TS-L2040 and TS-L1640 provide ±3 degrees of electronic stabilization, which is crucial for managing the inevitable handshake that becomes magnified at higher zoom levels. This is particularly beneficial when observing distant subjects where even the slightest movement can blur the image.

However, it’s worth noting that the older TS-X14x40 model, which offers ±6 degrees of stabilization, might still hold an edge in environments with more significant motion, like on a boat. Michael Bulbenko, a technical expert at Fujifilm, highlights this in a comparative video, suggesting that for marine applications, the older model might be more suitable due to its enhanced stabilization capabilities.

Both new models feature 40mm objective lenses, allowing for greater light intake which is vital for brighter, clearer views in various lighting conditions. This is a step up from Fujifilm’s entry-level stabilized binoculars, the TS12x28WP, which have smaller 28mm lenses.

Moreover, these binoculars are built to withstand the elements; they are waterproof up to one meter for 30 minutes, making them suitable for use in adverse weather or during water-based activities. This robustness is a testament to Fujifilm’s commitment to delivering gear that can handle the rigors of outdoor use.

Powered by two AAA batteries, the TS-L2040 and TS-L1640 promise up to 30 hours of continuous use, a practical feature for long observation sessions. Additionally, the auto-off function after 60 minutes of inactivity ensures that battery life isn’t wasted, which is particularly useful during extended field trips where recharging might not be feasible.

These new offerings from Fujifilm are poised to cater to a broad spectrum of users, from casual observers to professional photographers needing stable, high-magnification viewing for their work. They maintain the high standards set by the Techno-Stabi series while pushing the boundaries with increased zoom and reduced weight.
