Disney has officially announced the release of the highly anticipated 4K Blu-ray edition of the critically acclaimed Predator spin-off, ‘Prey.’ The release date? Mark your calendars for October 3, 2023, because that’s when you can snag your own copy.

Starring the incredible Amber Midthunder and earning six Emmy nominations, this movie initially skipped theaters and went straight to streaming on Hulu and Disney+. A bold move, right? So, imagine our surprise when Disney decided to give us a physical copy of the film that we’ve been craving for over a year.

But hang on, this news comes right after Disney announced that it’s giving the cold shoulder to disc releases in Australia. So, the fact that they’re giving us a 4K Blu-ray option for ‘Prey‘ is a bit like a plot twist in itself.

We all know that ‘Prey‘ has been looking stunning on Disney+ with its 4K visuals, HDR video, and Dolby Atmos sound support. But for those of us who are die-hard AV fans, there’s something magical about having that physical disc. The kind that comes with the stunning clarity, intricate details, and consistent quality that only a 4K Blu-ray can offer.

And speaking of sound, let’s talk about audio quality. If you’ve been streaming movies, you might have noticed that sometimes the sound isn’t as vibrant as it should be. Well, ‘Prey‘ fans are crossing their fingers for a top-notch, dynamic Dolby Atmos True HD soundtrack on the 4K Blu-ray. Disney has been making improvements in this department, so there’s hope we won’t be disappointed.

Now, let’s dive into the collector’s world. Disney is going all out for the ‘Prey‘ 4K Blu-ray release. Not only will there be a regular version, but Best Buy will have an exclusive artist line collector’s edition steelbook. This steelbook is like a work of art, designed by the renowned digital artist Attila Szarka. It’s the kind of thing that will make collectors drool.

Okay, now for the nerdy details. The 4K Blu-ray will come on a 66GB disc, which is more than enough space for a movie that’s just one hour and forty minutes long. You’ll be treated to a 2.39:1 aspect ratio and a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos mix. The HD Blu-ray, releasing on the same day, gets a 7.1 DTS-HD MA audio mix.

But before we get too carried away, let’s tackle the HDR question. Will the ‘Prey‘ 4K disc support Dolby Vision HDR? Well, from what we know about Disney’s preferences, it’s likely that the disc will only have HDR10. No Dolby Vision, folks.
