Heads up, Costco lovers: your next shopping trip might cost a little more. For the first time in seven years, Costco is raising membership fees.
Starting this September, basic Gold Star memberships (the ones most people have) will be $65 a year, up from $60. If you have an Executive Membership (with fancy rewards and such), that’s jumping to $130 annually, a $10 increase.
So, why the hike? Well, Costco’s been on a roll lately. Their stock price is soaring, and they keep opening new stores and selling tons of stuff. The company’s just doing really well, and they figure they can afford to charge a little more.
But should you be worried? Maybe not. Some folks who follow the stock market think Costco might be a bit pricey right now. But others say it’s still a good buy because Costco keeps growing and bringing in new customers.
It’s up to you. If you love your Costco runs and the savings you score there, the extra fee might be worth it. On the other hand, if you only go occasionally, maybe it’s time to re-think your membership. Hey, you could always snag a free sample on your way out the door!
