The Mac Studio and Studio Display, two new additions to Apple‘s computer lineup, were unveiled at this year’s March event, called ‘Peek Performance.’

This Mac Studio is a small, standalone computer that is more powerful than a Mac mini but smaller than a Mac Pro. The Studio Display is the monitor that goes with it. The Mac Studio, as its name suggests, is aimed at creative professionals who work in studios, providing a great combination of performance, connectivity, and flexibility.

It’s designed to be used as part of a digital or audio workstation by artists, photographers, and filmmakers, as well as developers who want to create new code faster.

This Mac Studio is still a small device, measuring just 7.7 by 3.7 inches and fitting nicely beneath your monitor. Apple’s M1 Max or M1 Ultra chips are tucked inside its single aluminum extrusion, the Mac Studio with M1 Max can be configured up to 64 GB of unified memory, whereas the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra offers up to 128GB. When you consider the Mac Studio’s capacity of up to 8TB of solid-state storage, it’s evident that it’s built for working on large projects at high speeds.

The Mac Studio with the M1 Max CPU is 2.5 times faster than the 27-inch iMac and 50% faster than the Mac Pro, according to Apple. If you upgrade to the M1 Ultra processor, your computer will be 3.8 times faster in terms of CPU speed than the fastest 27-inch iMac and 90% faster than the Mac Pro.

According to Apple, the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra can also play back 18 streams of 8K ProRes 422 video, which no other computer in the world can do.

It has four Thunderbolt 4 connectors, a 10GB Ethernet port, two USB-A ports, HDMI, and a pro audio jack for connectivity. There are also two USB-C connectors (for Mac Studio M1 Max model) on the front, as well as another Thunderbolt port (for Mac Studio with M1 Ultra model) and an SD card slot, which will delight photographers and video editors everywhere.
