Apple TV+ announced second season renewal for “Physical” dramedy series
SHARE

“Physical,” the global blockbuster dramedy series created by Annie Weisman and starring Rose Byrne on Apple TV+, has been renewed for a second season, announced and reported by Apple on August 4, 2021. Rory Scovel, Dierdre Friel, Della Saba, Lou Taylor Pucci, Paul Sparks, Ashley Liao, and Geoffrey Arend feature alongside Byrne in “Physical.”

Tomorrow Studios created “Physical” for Apple TV+ (an ITV Studios partnership). “Physical” is directed by Craig Gillespie and Stephanie Laing, who also serve as executive producers alongside Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements for Tomorrow Studios, Alexandra Cunningham, John McNamara, Sera Gamble, and Byrne. It was created, written, and executive produced by Weisman, who also serves as showrunner.

“Physical,” a half-hour dark comedy set in the beautiful but fragile beach paradise of sunny 1980s San Diego, follows Sheila Rubin (Byrne), a quietly disturbed, seemingly devoted housewife who supports her smart but controversial husband’s bid for state assembly. Sheila, on the other hand, has her own darkly humorous take on life that she rarely lets the world see. She’s also battling a complex set of emotional problems related to her self-image… until she finds peace in the most unlikely of places: the aerobics world.

Sheila’s true path to empowerment begins when she discovers a way to combine her newfound passion with the rising technology of VHS to launch a groundbreaking enterprise. Sheila develops into someone we take for granted today (but was completely innovative at the time)—the female lifestyle guru—as the series follows her dramatic journey from a stifled, unrecognized enabler to a powerful, confident economic force.
