A recently identified bug is causing concerns for some users of the new OLED iPad Pro models, particularly when viewing HDR content that contains certain shades of blue. According to a detailed review by iMore, this issue manifests as a distortion in HDR highlights, with affected blue hues appearing blown out and nearly white. iMore‘s investigation revealed that this defect can be discerned through noticeable compression artifacts in sample images.
The anomaly becomes apparent under specific conditions involving particular shades of blue, such as navy and indigo. iMore described the effect vividly, likening it to a spider’s web draped over the screen or an inky blob distorting the image. They highlighted that this problem is not universal across OLED devices, noting that similar issues were not observed on devices like the iPhone 15 Pro.
Moreover, iMore emphasized the challenge in identifying this issue, as it remains largely elusive under normal viewing circumstances. The root cause of this anomaly remains unclear.
Apple has acknowledged the problem, assuring iMore that a solution is in progress. The tech giant is actively developing a software update aimed at rectifying this HDR display issue on affected iPad Pro devices.
