Apple Music is dipping its toes into cross-platform integration through beta testing of the third-party service SongShift. The popular library transfer app allows users to easily port playlists between different music streaming platforms.
Several Reddit users have reported seeing prompts in the Android version of Apple Music to import their Spotify playlists and libraries using SongShift. The feature appears to be in limited A/B testing for now.
While Apple Music subscribers have long been able to manually recreate their Spotify playlists, SongShift automates the process. This saves users time and taps into the growing demand for services that work across ecosystems.
According to Redditor, “Just stumbled across this while using AM as usual on my Android phone, running the latest beta. Apparently they started a collab with SongShift. Is this already a thing on iOS?“
For iPhone users, SongShift integration is still limited to the Android app. But the beta test hints at Apple’s willingness to embrace cross-platform solutions.
Apple Music trails Spotify in subscribers, despite its tight integration with Apple devices. Features like SongShift could make it easier for new users to switch services.
It’s unclear when or if SongShift support will roll out widely. Apple frequently A/B tests new features and then abandons them.
But the experiment highlights Apple’s increased focus on services like Apple Music. And it shows a willingness to meet users on other platforms like Android.
For now, Spotify converts shouldn’t delete their libraries just yet. But existing Apple Music users may want to keep an eye out for prompts to import their playlists. It could make transitioning to Apple’s walled garden just a little easier.
