For many Apple fans, the iconic logo stickers that come included with new product purchases have become beloved collectibles and a badge of honor. However, as Apple continues its push towards more sustainable practices, a longstanding tradition is quietly being phased out. The company’s latest iPad releases, unveiled at the “Let Loose” event, will ship without the familiar apple-themed stickers tucked inside their boxes.
The news, contained in an internal memo distributed to Apple Store employees, cited the company’s environmental goals as the driving force behind this decision. Specifically, Apple is striving to ensure its product packaging is entirely free of plastic components, and the stickers, though small, represent a piece of that puzzle.
“Apple stickers will not be included in the box for the new iPad Pro and iPad Air,” the memo stated matter-of-factly. “This is part of its environmental goals, as it strives to ensure its packaging is completely plastic-free.”
While this move may disappoint some die-hard Apple fans who relish the opportunity to adorn their belongings with the iconic logo, the company has taken steps to soften the blow. Apple Stores have received limited shipments of the coveted stickers, which can be distributed to customers upon request when they purchase a new iPad Pro or iPad Air.
“Apple Stores are receiving shipments with a limited quantity of Apple logo stickers that can be distributed to customers who buy a new iPad Pro or iPad Air, but only upon request,” the memo read.
This temporary stopgap measure allows Apple to cater to the desires of sticker enthusiasts while still aligning with its sustainability initiatives. However, as the memo clarifies, once an Apple Store’s initial sticker supply is depleted, they will need to place additional orders with the company to restock.
For those who prefer to make their iPad purchases through third-party retailers such as Amazon or Best Buy, the prospect of scoring an Apple sticker appears bleak. The memo suggests that Apple is not distributing stickers to these external vendors, leaving the Apple Store as the sole source for acquiring the collectible emblems.
