Apple Inc. invented iOS(previously iPhone OS), a mobile operating system designed specifically for its hardware. It is the operating system that runs on many of Apple's mobile devices, notably the iPhone and iPod Touch; until the moniker iPadOS was adopted with version 13 in 2019, the word also referred to versions running on iPads.
